Basketball and Activities Camp Exclusively for Westfarm Kids Ages 8-16

This Summer Camp is designed to keep the participants engaged in positive, structured activities with well-trained coaches and staff. We will provide basketball skills training and regular fitness opportunities that will shape their mind, body, spirit and game. Campers will receive daily lunch, Snacks, Hydration Stations, and a Camp T-Shirt at no additional cost. William Tyler Page Elementary School Students & Children of Giant Food Stores #2332 and #350 Employees Are Welcome

It’s more than just a Basketball Camp!

In addition to the Basketball options, this Summer Camp also allows participants to take part in Swimming, Pickle Ball and Volleyball activities.

Camp Duration: June 24th- August  2nd, 2024 (6 Weeks)

Camp Time:  10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday thru Friday

Camp Cost Per Week: $150

BASKETBALL SKILLS AND DRILLS COVERED:

Shooting:  We’ll teach form shooting to help campers with concentration, coordination and muscle memory.

Dribbling: Dribbling drills will include stationary dribble, figure eight, cone dribbling, and ball manipulation to help campers with hand-eye coordination and ball protection.

Footwork: This drill will include backpedaling, foot placement, boxing out,  and weight distribution for a defensive slide.

Passing: These passing drills will help campers with one-hand, two-hand, behind-the-back and bounce passes.

Chair drills: These drills are good for teaching campers to maneuver around defenders and screens.

Other Drills:  Spot shooting, Lay up lines, catch and shoot, rebounding, crossover dribbling and more.

SAFEO Presents: The “I Promise” Skills & Drills Summer Camp at

VILLAGES AT MORGAN METRO FITNESS CENTER

OPEN TO YOUTH AGES 10-16.
Camp runs June 29 – July 31, 2015 weekly 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Cost is $150 per week. $50 non-refundable deposit.

Camp offers skills and drills in football, basketball, soccer, swimming, cheerleading and field trips.

Campers will receive breakfast, snacks, and a T-shirt.
Ask about our after-care and volunteer opportunities (parents are encouraged).

Concussion Awareness Day

December 12, 2014

Join us on December 12th at the Buffalo Wild Wings (Crystal City, VA) for the Buffalo Wild Wings “Eat Wings Raise Funds” Concussion Awareness Day. Help Raise awareness about concussion in youth sports and domestic violence on and off the playing field. There will be plenty of activities for the entire family including awareness materials, guest speakers and our Blazin Wings Challenge. The fundraising will kick off at 12noon with special events running from 8pm-12am.

To participate, our only requirement is that you reserve a table for a group of 15 to 20 or more people in which you must fill. Reservations starts at 6:30pm and your entire party need to be seated by 7pm. This is advised due to the high demand for seating at Buffalo Wild Wings. To reserve your group’s table simply RSVP us an email at safeoinc@gmail.com no later than Tuesday, December 9th deadline to let us know your group’s size. To secure early bird reservations, you can confirm on Wednesday, December 3rd.

Participate in either our Concussion or Domestic Violence Testimonial “Speak Out” segments to express your views on these important topics. Each group is limited up to (2) speakers who will be allowed a minimum of (5) minuets per speaker. However, we encourage all organizations to bring materials (brochures or flyers) to distribute to attendees.

We hope that you will join us for a day of awareness, family, food and fun while supporting a great cause at Buffalo Wild Wings.

The N Word Discussion

May 17, 2014

SAFEO teams up with the Greater Washington Urban League, Peoples Congressional United Church of Christ, and ABC News Reporter Sam Ford to lead a discussion surrounding the use and impact of the N word in youth sports. Topics of discussion include:

The harsh origin and history of the “N Word”, Why some reject and some embrace its use, The cultural acceptance of the “N Word” on the playing field among athletes and coaches, Pro Sports Leagues banning the use of the “N Word” a step in the right direction or not?, The impact of its use and Q & A segment.

In addition, we will be discussing the impact of bullying in the locker room.

Join us on May 17, 2014 from 11am to 1pm and voice your opinion. Athletes of all ages, parents, coaches and mentors are encouraged to attend!

Cornerstone Grill and Loft

April 6 thru 8, 2013

SAFEO teams up with the Cornerstone Grill and Loft in College Park, MD to raise awareness about concussions through the SAFEO I Promise Campaign. Thanks to the NFL Players Association donation of the Alfred Morris Helmet, we were able to raise money for the Campaign through a silent auction.


Washington Kastles Meet, Greet and Play

A SAFEO sponsored trip for a group of Washington, DC inner-city athletes to the Washington Kastles professional tennis team. For the day, participants attend a tennis skills clinic hosted by Kastles head Coach Murphy.  The participants are provided lunch and are permitted to participate in the game time tunnel ceremony, topped off by an upfront and close match to see tennis star, Martina Hingis.


Women and Sports-Related Concussions

January 26, 2013

Hosted the first annual “Women and Sports-Related Concussions” Fundraiser reception at the Verizon Center in downtown Washington, DC. The event highlighted and recognized several of the area’s top women experts in the field of TBI education, medical treatment, sports medicine, research and advocacy. Sponsored by Pfizer Inc. the panel included: Dr. Eleanor M. Perfetto (Pfizer, Inc. and Sports Legacy Institute), Dr. Keshia Pollack (John Hopkins Center for Injury Research), Dr. Yvette Rooks (University of Maryland Sports Medicine Unit), Kristen Sheely (Derek Sheely Foundation), and Dr. Annapurni Trouth (Howard University Hospital’s Department of Neurology).

The event was hosted by Juli M. Jordan, president and CEO of Jam Sports Productions. The special guest for the evening was top model, Brooke Gannt. After the reception participants were provided tickets to watch the Washington Wizards vs. Chicago Bulls game.


Giant and SAFEO team up to spread the word

January 8, 2013

Partnered with Giant Foods in Aspen Hills Shopping Center in Montgomery County Maryland to host an In-Store informational kiosk. We provided over 150 Giant patrons free information and materials about what a concussion is, how it is manifested, what the signs and symptoms are and what they can do to keep their young athletes safe.


Redskins Rides

August 19, 2012

SAFEO participated in the annual Eastern Motors Redskins Rides event. Each year top Washington Redskins players team up with the event to showcase the hot cars to the public. The I Promise campaign hosted an informational kiosk where we distributed free concussion awareness materials to over 5,000 attendees.
