Tia Bell

Tia Bell is a former H.D. Woodson Sr. high player who attended North Carolina State. In high school Tia averaged 13.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, 4.7 blocks (set a school single-season record with 144), 3.1 assists and 2.7 steals per game. While with the Warriors Bell was a two-time Gatorade D.C. Player of the Year (2006, 2007) … Ranked No. 20 nationally at her position by All-Star Girls Report and No. 140 overall … Ranked No. 24 at her position by Scout.com … Named first team All-Met by The Washington Post as a senior and third team All-Metro after her junior season.

As a freshman at N. C. State Bell got off to a slow start where she averaged 2.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 17 games for the Wolfpack. Later during that season she came on strong at the end for a four-game run in the postseason Women’s NIT averaging 7.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in those four games. As a sophomore, Bell started in 15 games in her second season at NC State. She averaged 6.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game. Her 51 blocks tied for the seventh most in a single season for the Wolfpack … Ranked fourth in the ACC and 37th nationally in blocks. She tied a school record with eight blocks against No. 17 Virginia.

Unfortunately, for the DC native by her junior year she suffered a knee injury and ended up missing the final 13 games of the season. At the time of injury she had been the club’s leading scorer and rebounder off the bench where she scored in double figures six times. By her senior season (2010-11) Bell only played just three minutes in the season opener against the College of Charleston where she again suffered a third injury to her left knee in the game. She had to undergo surgery for the third time in her career surgery and missed the remainder of the season. In 2011 Tia graduated with a degree in Sports Management and is currently living in Raleigh North Carolina where she is in the process of establishing a non-profit group to assist student athletes.
